FORMER NHL Stanley Cup champion Chris Simon has died at the age of 52, the NHL Players Affiliation confirmed.
Simon performed 15 seasons in the league and is most recognized for being a part of the Colorado Avalanche's 1996 championship staff.
The group's president Joe Sakic posted a touching tribute for Simon on X, previously generally known as Twitter.
He wrote: "Chris was a terrific guy, a beloved teammate, and an essential part of our first championship season.
"He was a very good hockey participant who might rating objectives, was an enormous presence within the dressing room, and was the primary individual to stand up and defend his teammates.
"Off& the ice, he was an unbelievable guy and a caring father, son, brother, and good friend. He might be sorely missed."
