INDIANAPOLIS —Donovan Mitchellscored 43 points for a second consecutive 40-point outing, but this time it didn't come in defeat as theCavaliers beat the Pacers 126-104in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. TheCavstrimmed thePacers' series lead to 2-1, avoiding the 3-0 deficit from which no NBA team has ever come back. Game 4 is 8 p.m. ET, Sunday atGainbridge Fieldhouse. TheCavs'win guarantees the series will go at least five games with Game 5 being in Cleveland. Guard Max Strus had 20 points and seven assists for the Cavs. Center Jarrett Allen had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Evan Mobley had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Bennedict Mathurin led the Pacers with 23 points. ForwardPascal Siakamadded 18. CenterMyles Turneradded 15. Here are three observations. Mitchell gave the Cavs 48 points in a sensational performance in Game 2, but it still wasn't enough for the Cavs to avoid a fourth-quarter collapse. He wasn't about to let it happen again, and he also had more stars available to help him with Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and De'Andre Hunterall back after missing Game 2 with injury. Mitchell, as he has been all series, was impossible to keep away from the rim without fouling. He scored 43 points on 14-of-29 shooting with much of that coming at the rim, but he also hit 5-of-13 3s. He was also 10-of-14 at the line and when he wasn't scoring he was playmaking for others. He grabbed nine rebounds and also dished out five assists. The Cavs had four other players in double figures but Mobley was the most important on both ends. He scored 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting but he was a bigger game-changer on the defensive end. TheNBA's Defensive Player of the Yeargrabbed 13 rebounds, including eight on defense, blocked three shots and registered three steals. In three of the past four games, the Pacers have put together a truly awful offensive quarter in the first half to dig a hole for themselves. In Friday's case it was the second quarter after a 13-point first quarter against the Bucks in Game 5 of the first round and a 15-point first quarter against the Cavs in Game 2. The Pacers seemed totally flummoxed by the 3-2 zone the Cavs used, and Mobley personally blew up a lot of what the Pacers were trying to do. They lost the period 34-13 making just five of 22 field goals and missing all 11 of their 3-point shots. They managed five paint buckets in the period but that was almost all the offense they could muster. In each game so far in this series, Mathurin has brought a spark to the Pacers when they absolutely had to have it and brought a sustained level of force on both ends. The third-year wing broke the Pacers out of an early first-quarter funk with three buckets, including a pair of 3s. That helped the Pacers turn an 0-of-7 start from the field and a stretch where only Myles Turner could score points into a 32-point first quarter. From there, Mathurin kept attacking the rim and kept drawing fouls and showed some shooting touch. He finished with 23 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range and 8-of-9 from the line. He also caused Garland trouble on defense, getting him to pick up his fourth foul at a critical time. Get IndyStar's Pacers coverage sent directly to your inbox with thePacers Update newsletter. LSU star Flau'jae Johnson name-drops old rival Caitlin Clark in new rap songNew Foto - LSU star Flau'jae Johnson name-drops old rival Caitlin Clark in new rap song

Friday wasn't the first time Caitlin Clark hasappeared in a rap lyric, but it was definitely the first time she got name-dropped by a performer she has faced multiple times in March Madness. LSU star Flau'jae Johnson, who moonlights as a rapper on Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, released her latest single this week, "Help Me," via a video on TikTok. About midway through the song comes a lyric with a little extra meaning. "Double-C on my jacket like Caitlin Clark." Johnson and LSU famously faced Clark's Iowa team in both the 2023 and 2024 NCAA tournaments, beating the Hawkeyes for the national championship in the first gamethenlosing in the Elite Eight and their back-to-back bid in the National Player of the Year's revenge game. Between those two games and the discourse that emerged from them,LSU became an unavoidable part of Clark's story, and vice versa. That continued into the Indiana Fever star's WNBA career, topping former LSU star Angel Reese for Rookie of the Year honors last season. While that relationship has been contentious at times, with some fans clearly going over the line, Johnson has spoken respectfully of Clark. Inan interview with Complex in March, she identified Clark as one of the toughest opponents she's faced, along with Paige Bueckers, and praised her skills: "I played Clark my freshman year and my sophomore year. I'm a junior, and so first year — freshman year — we got it. Second year, she got me. So me and Caitlin, we 1-1 right now. I got to wait until I get into the league to break that tie. "She's definitely the hardest opponent I've ever had to play. She was able to just facilitate. She's like the best passer I think I've ever played against, ever in my life. Her and Georgia Amoore, they can really pass. I really respect the game, and I respect her skill. This is next level; it's not even close." So there is respect between players in a contentious rivalry, enough that Clark received a downright respectful mention in one of her opponent's songs. Meanwhile, Clark is preparing to follow up a successful rookie year, in which shebroke the WNBA assist record, drew massive viewershipandbroke the league's longest playoff drought. With the additions of veterans DeWanna Bonner, Sophie Cunningham and Natasha Howard over the offseason, the Fever have reinforced their roster enough that they currently have the WNBA's third-best championship odds at BetMGMat +300, behind only the New York Liberty (+225) and Las Vegas Aces (+275).

Federal appeals court skeptical over NASCAR antitrust caseNew Foto - Federal appeals court skeptical over NASCAR antitrust case

Although Michael Jordan's 23XI Racing team and Front Row Motorsports won a preliminary injunction in their antitrust lawsuit against NASCAR last December, it might not stand up to scrutiny on appeal. The case went before a panel of three judges in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday in Richmond, Va. The judges appeared to lean toward NASCAR's argument that the basis of the injunction was flawed. 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports were granted an injunction that allowed them to operate as chartered NASCAR teams despite not signing a charter. The two teams had refused to sign a take-it-or-leave-it charter agreement presented last September, which the other 13 organizations in the Cup Series signed. NASCAR filed its appeal in February. NASCAR asserted that U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell misapplied antitrust laws and portrayed the release of claims as standard business practice, not anti-competitive conduct. "If you don't want the contract, you don't enter into it and you sue," U.S. Circuit Court Judge Paul Niemeyer said. "Or if you want the contract, you enter into it, and you've given up past releases. But I think our Omega observation (referencing a 1997 case between a travel agency and TWA) is you can't have your cake and eat it too." If the injunction is overturned and the two teams can no longer operate as chartered members, they can still compete in the Cup Series as open teams. NASCAR attorney Christopher Yates noted that the teams would have qualified for every race so far this season even without charter status. However, the attorney representing 23XI and Front Row, Jeffrey Kessler, argued that it would be too disruptive to overturn the initial ruling midstream. "It will cause havoc to overturn this injunction in the middle of the season, while if it just stays into effect till November, we're done," Kessler said. "And then we'll have a trial and we'll either win or lose." NASCAR's recent countersuit against 23XI and Front Row said they were engaging in an "illegal cartel" to try to extract more favorable contracts from the racing league. A trial is set for Dec. 1, but it is unknown whether the panel will make a decision regarding the injunction anytime soon. --Field Level Media

Shedeur Sanders takes the field for the first time as the Browns begin their rookie minicampNew Foto - Shedeur Sanders takes the field for the first time as the Browns begin their rookie minicamp

BEREA, Ohio (AP) —Shedeur Sandersbegan the process Friday of trying to show he can be a factor in the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition. Sanders, possibly the most publicized 144th-overall draft pick in history after the projected first-rounder dropped into the fifth round, took the field for his first practice as the Browns opened a two-day rookie minicamp. Wearing an orange No. 12 jersey, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders got the same amount of snaps asthird-round pick Dillon Gabrielduring the 90-minute practice. Coach Kevin Stefanski said both quarterbacks did a nice job. "I think the fun part is we've spent so much pre-draft time with these players, particularly when we're talking about our quarterbacks with Dillon and Shedeur," he said. "We've spent meeting time with them out of this building. We've taken them through walkthroughs and then they get to go do it in uniform with the helmets on and just see what they can take from the meeting room to the grass." Sanders and Gabriel are likely to give interviews Saturday after the Browns made their other five draft picks available Friday. Both quarterbacks started with individual work and a 7-on-7 drill before each got six plays during full-team drills. Gabriel, who is wearing No. 5, took the first snaps in the 11-on-11 period, likely because he was the higher draft pick. Stefanski did not give a reason, though. "I think you'll see the whole weekend, going through the spring, we don't pay too close attention to who's in there first," Stefanski said. Because they drafted two quarterbacks, the Browns have tweaked their practice schedule to allow for more 7-on-7 work — skill position players going against linebackers and the secondary. Cleveland signed six wide receivers and two tight ends to tryout contracts this weekend in order to maximize snaps. The biggest adjustment for Sanders and Gabriel will be working more under center after playing most of their careers in shotgun formations. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees was instructing both quarterbacks on areas to improve. Stefanski said both players need to work on technique as they get ready to join the quarterback room with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett next week. When it comes to the quarterback competition, Stefanski did not want to say if anyone is ahead yet. "There's a lot of time between now and September, so we will have a plan. It's an all-encompassing evaluation," he said. "It's not something that it's just based on the practice reps. There's a lot that goes into it." Defensive end Mason Graham, whom the Browns took with the fifth overall pick, said it didn't matter to him that there was more attention on Sanders. "I come to play football. If the media's on me, then they're on me. If the media's not, then it's not. I'm just going to do my job at the end of the day," he said. NOTES: Linebacker Carson Schwesinger (second round) and running back Dylan Sampson (fourth round) signed their rookie contracts. ... Stefanski said linebacker Devin Bush "was in the building this week"after being chargedwith harassment and misdemeanor simple assault last weekend. Bush is accused of chasing his girlfriend through his house in suburban Pittsburgh and smashing her cellphone. ___ AP NFL:https://apnews.com/hub/nfl

Video emerges of White Sox fan Pope Leo XIV in crowd at 2005 World SeriesNew Foto - Video emerges of White Sox fan Pope Leo XIV in crowd at 2005 World Series

Pope Leo XIV, a Chicago native previously known as Cardinal Robert Prevost,is definitely a White Sox fan. Despite the claims of theChicago Cubs, it was firmly established in the hours after Leo's election that he rooted for the White Sox growing up, according to both his brother and photographic evidence of him at a 2005 World Series game. And now, one White Sox fan,Sox on 35th blogger Joe Binder, has unearthed footage of Leo clearly in the crowd for Game 1 of that World Series. The now-pope looks somewhat uneasy as White Sox closer Bobby Jenks closes out a 5-3 win over theHouston Astros. The White Sox went on to sweep the Astros to win their first World Series in 88 years. Following the announcement of his election, it was initially unclear what baseball team Leo was partial to. It was natural to assume he'd like most Chicago teams, as well as his alma mater, Villanova University, but an apparently erroneous report from ABC News led many to believe he was a Cubs fan, including the Cubs themselves. However, his brother later told WGN News that it was always the White Sox: "He was never, ever a Cubs fan, so I don't know where that came from. He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan. I don't know, maybe that clued in there, and our dad was a Cardinals fan, so I don't know where that all came from." One day later, the White Sox were still celebrating.
